ISLAMABAD: In a move reflecting the strain of the ongoing Gulf oil crisis and tight austerity measures, the government announced on Tuesday that Pakistan Day’s March 23 parade and all related ceremonial events will not take place. A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said the occasion will, however, be observed with dignity through a simple flag-hoisting ceremony at appropriate levels. The statement added that the decision was taken to ensure that the nation’s resilience and steadfast commitment to the ideals of Pakistan Day remain consistent with the broader austerity framework. Ministries, divisions, and departments have been advised to mark the day in a solemn and respectful manner, preserving the spirit of the occasion despite the scaled-down celebrations.
