A hotel in Baghdad housing Finnish, US and other embassies in Iraq came under drone attack early Tuesday night, local and international media reported. The drone hit the roof of the Royal Tulip al-Rasheed Hotel in the heavily fortified Green Zone area and facilities inside the compound caught fire, reported Xinhua. All the staff of the Finnish embassy remained unhurt and safe, reported national broadcaster Yle, quoting Finnish Foreign Ministry sources. Meanwhile, Iraqi Interior Ministry source told Xinhua that two booby-trapped drones landed within the US embassy perimeter and the subsequent explosions sparked a fire visible from outside the complex. The source said that the security forces has launched an investigation into the incident. No casualties or damage have been reported so far. The Green Zone in central Baghdad houses Iraqi government buildings, the parliament, and foreign missions. The incident occurs amid a surge in attacks targeting foreign missions and military bases in Iraq, following the outbreak of a wider regional conflict on Feb. 28 involving Israel and the United States against Iran.
