'Even if they underestimate us, we will always be best!' - Thousands celebrate in Caracas after historic 3-2 victory over US in WBC final

"Thousands of Venezuelans celebrated in Baruta on Tuesday after their national team defeated the United States 3–2 to win the 2026 World Baseball Classic, claiming the title for the first time in history. Footage captured at Alfredo Sadel Square in Baruta on Tuesday shows spectators gathering around a giant screen set up by local authorities. Fans were also seen waving flags and cheering as news of Venezuela's victory spread through the square. "Excellent, excellent, honestly, it was a bit of a close game because the United States is not an easy team, but we had everything under control. Excellent. I always supported my team 100 per cent. We never gave up, and it's Venezuela, period," said a fan, "Even if they underestimate us, we will always be the best country in the world. Venezuela for the whole world. Venezuela and nothing else," added a second. The game was held at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. Venezuela took an early lead with a sacrifice fly and added runs before the United States rallied to tie the game in the eighth inning. Venezuela regained the lead in the ninth when Eugenio Suarez drove in the go‑ahead run, and Daniel Palencia closed out the win. Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, congratulated the country's team in a video shared on her social media, calling the achievement a 'milestone' for the country. "For the first time in history, Venezuela becomes the champion in this sporting event. As we say, honour to the defeated and glory to the victor. Glory to the brave people of Venezuela!" Rodriguez said. The World Baseball Classic is an international tournament organised by Major League Baseball and the World Baseball Softball Confederation and features teams from around the world competing every few years."
