'Indescribable joy' - Morocco football fans go wild as CAF strips Senegal of AFCON title

"Moroccan football fans took to the streets of Rabat on Tuesday night to celebrate the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of the 2025–2026 Africa Cup of Nations and award it to Morocco, after it was confirmed that the Senegalese national team had violated regulations during the final match. Footage shows dozens rallying in streets and squares and waving Moroccan flags. Vehicles driving and honking horns were also seen moving through the streets as fans cheered. "The African Union saved the day after the initial decision," said Samid Ghilan, an activist. "Senegal will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, but they won't get anywhere because the law is clear." Fatima Al-Zahraa Jitna, a fan, expressed her joy, saying: "We are very happy with the decision announced by CAF today. Praise be to God - this joy is indescribable." The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced in a statement released on Tuesday the decisions of the Appeals Committee regarding the events of the 2025-2026 Africa Cup of Nations final, confirming the Moroccan national team's 3-0 victory over its Senegalese counterpart, in accordance with Article 84 of the tournament regulations. The final match between Senegal and Morocco saw controversial moments in its final minutes, after the referee awarded a penalty kick to the Moroccan team, prompting the Senegalese team to walk off the field in protest of the decision, before returning to complete the match. Ibrahim Diaz missed the penalty kick, sending the match into extra time, during which the Senegalese team scored the decisive goal to clinch the title on the field."
