Saudi Arabia welcomes Pakistan-Afghanistan Eid truce, urges dialogue

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Wednesday welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, praising both sides for responding to calls from the Kingdom, Qatar and Turkey.In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said prioritizing dialogue and peaceful solutions remains the best path to resolving ongoing disputes.The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to continuing diplomatic efforts, in coordination with brotherly and friendly countries, to promote peace, security and stability in the region.Earlier, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the country would temporarily halt military operations against Afghanistan, in a post on X.Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed the truce, stating it came “at the request of friendly Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey,” while warning that Kabul would respond firmly to any violations during the ceasefire.
