Too Few Psychotherapy Places for Children in Austria

Three out of ten children and adolescents in Austria suffer from mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety disorders. About half of those affected receive professional help, while the others are waiting for a suitable therapy place. Long waiting times are particularly common for child and adolescent psychotherapeutic services offered by health insurance. "The waiting makes parents feel so helpless," criticized psychologist and family counselor Michèle Liussi about the current situation.
