Drone smuggling - India arrests six Ukrainians, one US national on terrorism charges

"India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested six Ukrainian nationals and one American citizen on charges of conspiring to carry out terrorist activities. The arrests were carried out across multiple cities: the US national was detained by immigration authorities at Kolkata airport, while three Ukrainians were apprehended in Lucknow and another three in New Delhi. According to the NIA, the suspects were involved in illegally importing large consignments of drones from Europe into Myanmar via India. Authorities allege the equipment was intended for use by ethnic armed groups engaged in insurgent activities. Investigators said the group entered India on valid visas but later travelled to the northeastern state of Mizoram without obtaining the required Restricted Area Permit (RAP). They are also accused of crossing the India–Myanmar border without authorisation. The NIA further alleges that the suspects made contact with ethnic armed groups operating along the border, provided training in drone operations, and facilitated drone shipments from Europe. In a statement released late on Tuesday, Ukraine's foreign ministry said that there were "no established facts proving the involvement of the Ukrainian citizens in unlawful activities on the territory of India or Myanmar." Ambassador to Delhi, Oleksandr Polishchuk, handed over a note of protest "demanding the immediate release of the Ukrainian citizens and access to them.""
