The Philippine women’s football team secured a return trip to the Fifa Women’s World Cup after defeating Uzbekistan, 2-0, in Thursday’s play-in match at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Gold Coast, Australia. Angie Beard and Jackie Sawicki scored early in the second half, both coming off crosses from Jael-Marie Guy, as the Filipinas became the fifth team from Asia to secure a spot in the World Cup slated next year in Brazil.
