'Proud to be Venezuelan' - Rodriguez at ceremony in Caracas as country receives first World Baseball Classic title after beating US

"Acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, received at the Miraflores Palace the 2026 World Baseball Classic trophy, won by the Venezuelan national team after defeating the United States 3 runs to 2 on Tuesday night in Miami. Images recorded this Wednesday show Rodriguez receiving the trophy from Aracelis Leon, president of the Venezuelan Baseball Federation, who brought the trophy to the country from the United States. Members of the Venezuelan national team did not travel to Caracas due to the imminent start of Major League Baseball in the coming days. During the event, Rodriguez thanked the players for making them feel 'proud to be Venezuelans 100 per cent' and announced the construction of a Hall of Fame dedicated to the players who represented Venezuela in the tournament. "Approved the walk of stars in La Plaza de La Juventud de Venezuela so that each of their names shines on that star and each star represents the story of where they come from, the story that made them grow with their own sacrifices, with their own effort," she announced. She also indicated that coordination has taken place with the government of the United States and the Major League Baseball organisation so that the Venezuelan players can travel to their home country "even if only for one day to embrace their people." Finally, the president decreed March 17 as National Baseball Day in commemoration of the title won by the Venezuelan national team and reported that she will give the instruction for the trophy to be taken to all the states of the country "as a symbol of the glories of Venezuela." As part of the celebrations, at least five caravans moved through Caracas, waving Venezuelan flags until reaching La Plaza de la Juventud, where a concert is being held in celebration of the historic achievement."
