On Thursday in the early morning hours, the fire department rescued five people, including a baby, from a burning apartment building in Hoheneich (district of Gmünd). The residents were admitted to the state hospitals in Gmünd and Zwettl with suspected smoke inhalation, as the Lower Austrian police reported upon request. Two dogs died.
