None shall pass - Roads closed in southern Lebanon as Israeli strikes hit Litani crossings

"Footage released on Thursday shows damage to two crossings in the Qasmiyeh area of southern Lebanon following Israeli airstrikes. The Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday that it had “attacked two crossings over the Litani River in Lebanon, which were being used by Hezbollah operatives and commanders as a means of movement from the north to the south of the Litani.” The IDF added that Hezbollah “uses these crossings to transport thousands of weapons, including rockets and launchers used to carry out terrorist attacks from the area south of the Litani against IDF forces and citizens of the State of Israel.” Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that “enemy aircraft targeted a cafe near the Qasmiyeh bridge,” adding that the Lebanese army closed the coastal road and diverted traffic to the Burj Rahal highway to ensure public safety, as the area between Abu Aswad and Qasmiyeh remained under attack. The strikes come amid escalating regional tensions following joint military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, while diplomatic efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes were ongoing. Tehran has since launched retaliatory strikes targeting Israeli territory and US military assets across the region, with explosions reported in several Gulf countries. During the escalation, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed and later succeeded by his son Mojtaba Khamenei. The conflict has widened to include Hezbollah in Lebanon, which said it joined the fighting in retaliation for Khamenei’s death. Regional shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, have also been affected, contributing to oil prices rising above $100 per barrel and increasing pressure on global markets."
