'We cannot allow someone to think they own the world!' - Lula condemns US-Israel war on Iran as conflict rattles global oil markets

"Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva condemned the US and Israel's war on Iran as the conflict triggered global oil market instability, speaking at the 17th Federative Caravan in Sao Paulo on Thursday. "We are caught off guard with the United States bombing Iran [...] We cannot allow someone to think they own the world and wake up in the morning saying, 'I am going to take Greenland. I am going to take the Panama Canal. I am going to take Cuba. I am going to take Venezuela. I am going to take everything'," he said. Despite introducing a new tax exemption on diesel imports, Lula claimed that fuel prices continued to 'go up'. "Not only did the price of diesel go up, but also alcohol, which has nothing to do with the war in Iran," he continued. The president warned that those who "use the war in Iran to harm the Brazilian people and sell things to them at higher prices" will be arrested. Last Wednesday, Brazil's Ministry of Finance proposed that states eliminate the ICMS state tax on diesel imports, and that the federal government would cover part of the revenue loss, to prevent a rise in prices."
