"A UNICEF delegation, led by Regional Director Gilles Fagninou, met with AFC/M23 leaders on Thursday, days after one of its staff members, Karine Buisset, was killed in a drone strike in a residential neighbourhood. "Following this event, the UNICEF Regional Director came to assess the situation and console the UNICEF staff in particular, as well as the entire humanitarian community in general," said AFC/M23 coordinator Corneille Nangaa. "We have assured the entire humanitarian community of access, security, and protection, particularly for children, women, and the civilian population in general," he continued. Following the discussions, a ceremony of tribute was held in honour of Buisset, attended by representatives of several international NGOs. The event recognised her dedication to protecting children's rights in eastern DRC. The drone strike earlier this month in Goma targeted a residential area, killing the French humanitarian. The attack has intensified concerns about the safety of humanitarian personnel and the continuity of aid programs in the region. Eastern DRC remains volatile, with active armed groups affecting civilians and humanitarian access."
