TACLOBAN CITY — The city government here is set to implement austerity measures in response to the ongoing fuel crisis triggered by tensions in the Middle East, with Mayor Alfred Romualdez announcing a scaled-down fiesta celebration and stricter controls on government spending. Romualdez said the annual fiesta celebration in June will be significantly reduced, with about 90 percent of its budget to be cut and redirected to assist sectors most affected by rising fuel prices.
