Spring fling! - Keukenhof opens 2026 season as hundreds pack tulip hotspot in Lisse

"Visitors streamed into Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse on Thursday as the world-famous spring park opened its 2026 season, showcasing vibrant displays of blooming tulips. Footage shows attendes walking among colourful fields of pink, red and yellow blossoms in the world's largest and most renowned tulip garden. Organisers, some dressed in historical costumes, also engaged visitors by sharing stories about the region's past. "I'm Jacoba van Beieren. I'm a historical figure who used to live here. I'm dressed in clothes from the 1400s. I used to be a countess around these parts. I had a little bit of a fight with my uncle. I was married four times, once to the Prince of France and once to the Prince of England," one organiser said. Tourists from around the world described the visit as a long-awaited experience. "I actually really love tulips, so I always wanted to come here. This is my childhood dream," said Aya, a visitor originally from Indonesia. Keukenhof's head grower, Stefan, said the park is expecting around 1.4 million visitors this year. Often referred to as the 'Garden of Europe,' the park features around seven million spring-flowering bulbs, with more than 100 bulb companies and 500 growers contributing to the displays. The festival, which dates back to 1949, will run until May 10, continuing its tradition as one of Europe's most popular spring attractions and a showcase of Dutch horticulture."
