"'Ukraine uses the tools of state terrorism!' - Orban 'This must be taken seriously!' - Orban accuses Ukraine of 'state terrorism' over blocked Druzhba pipeline Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Friday sharply escalated his rhetoric against Ukraine and the European Union, accusing Kiev of 'state terrorism' and warning that Europe is facing a deep strategic crisis, during remarks after an EU summit in Brussels. Orban claimed that Ukraine had carried out 'three terrorist actions', including the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline and disruptions to energy supplies affecting Hungary. He alleged that Kiev had also blocked key oil transit routes, framing the issue as an 'existential' threat to Hungary’s energy security ahead of upcoming elections. “Ukraine is a state that also uses the tools of state terrorism. This must be taken seriously [...] They blew up the Nord Stream pipeline [...] Then came the blockage of the Hungarian gas pipeline. We don't talk about it, but the oil blockage is only the second step in our case, because sometime in 2022, unilaterally violating the agreement made with the Union, Ukraine and the Union violated it [...] Now we are at the third step, the blockage of the Hungarian oil pipeline, the Friendship oil pipeline,” he said. Hungary and Slovakia have claimed Kiev is halting the oil supplies from Russia for political reasons, while Ukraine says the pipeline was damaged in a 'Russian strike'. Orban also criticised the European Union’s handling of the conflict in Ukraine, arguing that Brussels is pushing policies that harm member states economically while prolonging the conflict. He reiterated his opposition to further EU financial aid to Kiev, suggesting that member states should fund Ukraine independently rather than through EU mechanisms. “We have a lot of cards in our hands, I don't think it's worth picking a fight with Hungary,” Orban said, hinting that Hungary could continue to block key EU decisions requiring unanimity, including sanctions and budget allocations. He further claimed that Europe’s relations with the United States have become 'hostile', accusing EU leaders of undermining Washington’s efforts to end the conflict with Russia. “The Europeans do not support the American president regarding the Russian policies concerning the closure of the Ukrainian war. Therefore, there is a bad relationship, not to mention the previous insults and unacceptable gestures made by the Europeans towards the American president,” he said. Orban’s comments come amid long-running disputes between Budapest and Brussels over sanctions on Russia and military aid to Ukraine."
