Celebrated broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray, who became the longest-serving presenter of BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, has sadly died at the age of 75. The beloved journalist sat down with Nigel Farage live on GB News in 2022, where they shared a drink and discussed her early life and career. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say Describing the beginnings of Women's Hour in 1946, Dame Jenni said: "It was very radical... what was really radical about it was it was presented by a man for the first few months, and there were lots of complaints from women saying, 'Why do we have to have a man broadcasting to us about these kind of subjects?'. She told Mr Farage the programme was not all about knitting and cooking, but rather discussions about women in the workplace and even a whole series about the menopause. Dame Jenni helmed the flagship programme for more than three decades, joining in 1987 and departing in 2020. Throughout her remarkable tenure, she transformed the show into an essential platform for exploring women's experiences and perspectives. Her final broadcast concluded with Helen Reddy's feminist anthem I Am Woman. Growing up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Dame Jenni received a grammar school education before pursuing French and drama at the University of Hull. Her journey into broadcasting commenced in 1973 at a local radio station in Bristol.
