From Miami with aid - Two charter flights deliver 2.8 tonnes of humanitarian supplies to Cuba amid US blockade

"Two charter flights from Miami landed in Havana as part of the international 'Nuestra America' solidarity convoy, bringing members of the flotilla and 2.8 tonnes of humanitarian aid amid diplomatic tensions and the US trade blockade on the island. Footage filmed on Friday shows the delegation arriving at Jose Marti International Airport with hundreds of boxes of medical supplies and basic goods. US lawyer Suzane Adely, of the National Lawyers Guild, said the effort was both collective and political, aimed not only at helping the Cuban people but also at challenging Donald Trump's administration. "I am part of a group of hundreds of people who are sending a message of solidarity to the Cuban people and sending a message to the US and the Trump administration. We will not stand by while they try to hurt and weaken Cuba," the lawyer said. Cuban-Americans also took part in the convoy. Brian Gonzalez, from Cuban Americans for Cuba, said he joined because of his family connection to the island and his wish to help deliver aid directly. "We are bringing some aid, as much as we could. I was born here on the island, but I lived and grew up in the United States, but now as an adult, I want to come and help as much as I can," said Gonzalez. The 'Nuestra America' initiative is part of a co-ordinated international campaign in support of Cuba, uniting delegations, activists and social movements from several countries to gather supplies to help counter the effects of the US trade blockade."
