'Praise and thanks be to Allah!' - Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque welcomes thousands of worshippers to attend Eid al-Fitr prayer

"Thousands of Muslims filled the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Saturday to attend the Eid al-Fitr prayer and see the Holy Month of Ramadan off. Footage shows worshippers gathering outside the mosque from early morning before entering to fill the main hall for prayers. They were seen conversing and taking photographs in high spirits after the session. "Praise and thanks be to Allah; glory be to him for giving me the opportunity with my family to pray at the Istiqlal Mosque and to gather with family, and it’s really crowded, so it’s fun here," said Rizky, a devotee. "My hope for this year's Eid is that it will be even more blessed and prosperous. That’s it, and to everyone celebrating, happy Eid al-Fitr; please accept my sincere apologies," another worshipper shared. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and a number of state officials also performed the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, according to local media. Eid al-Fitr is one of the two main events in Islam, along with Eid al-Adha, and marks the end of fasting, prayer and reflection during Ramadan. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population of any country in the world, with around 242 million devotees living on the country's various islands as of 2022, according to reports."
