'We will continue this presence' - Thousands perform Eid al-Fitr prayers at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla

"Thousands of Muslims performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran on Saturday amid continued US-Israeli military operations across the country. Footage shows worshippers praying before listening to the sermon delivered by the Imam. Following the prayers, Tehran Friday Prayer Imam, Mohammad-Javad Haj Ali Akbari, addressed the worshippers, saying, "They [Americans] should get out and disappear from this region, and this region should be cleansed of their vile presence. This filth must be purified from this Islamic region." "A new strategy in the Islamic Republic against the flow of global arrogance, against imperialist America and the Zionist regime, is to deliver more serious, harder, and more shattering blows against them," he continued. "We will continue this presence [gatherings on the streets] as long as necessary. Our mosques are the main bases for the presence and organisation of our nation to make the enemies blind, nights of epic events, and our presence will continue. This coordination between the streets and squares will continue until victory," the Imam reaffirmed.  Earlier, Iran confirmed that Eid al-Fitr begins on Saturday, March 21. Tensions flared in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation on Iran on February 28, when diplomatic talks were taking place aimed at ‘undermining Iran's nuclear and missile programmes'. Tehran then announced retaliatory strikes on Israel and US assets in the region. Explosions were reported in different Gulf countries. Later, Iran confirmed the killing of the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and his son, Mujtaba Khamenei, was selected as his successor. The conflict spilt over into Lebanon as Hezbollah intervened 'in revenge' for the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader. The shipment routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, were disrupted following the closure of the Strait. The latest escalation has driven oil prices above 100 USD per barrel, rattling global energy markets and triggering protests in several countries."
