More toll operators to offer discounts for PUVs starting March 23

More tollway operators will extend discounted rates to public utility vehicles (PUVs) — including traditional and modern jeepneys, buses, and freight vehicles — starting March 23. The expressways offering toll discounts include the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway, R-1 Expressway Extension, Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (Tipo–Tarlac). Eligible PUVs may save up to P66 for Class 1 vehicles, P131 for Class 2, and P197 for Class 3. In a statement issued Saturday, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez expressed gratitude to toll operators, noting the relief the program will bring to transport stakeholders and commuters. The discounts will be in effect for an initial two-month period and may be extended after a review. “We are thankful to the toll operators because these discounts are a big help to our PUV drivers. We understand the daily challenges faced by the transport sector, which is why we continue to implement programs that directly benefit them,” Lopez said. The discounts will be processed through a rebate mechanism and credited weekly to qualified vehicles.
