"Thousands of mourners attended the funeral of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' spokesperson Ali Mohammad Naini and his bodyguard in Tehran on Saturday after an Israeli airstrike claimed their lives on Thursday. Footage shows people gathered after Eid Al-Fitr prayers in the Imam Khomeini Mosalla of Tehran to perform prayers over the bodies. The exact date and location of the footage cannot be independently verified. Iranian state television confirmed on Friday the killing of Ali Mohammad Naini in strikes carried out jointly by the US and Israel. The Israeli army confirms killing Naini and said in a statement, "The Air Force, directed by the Military Intelligence Directorate, attacked on Thursday night and eliminated the so-called Ali Mohammad Naini, spokesperson and head of the propaganda system in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard." The statement further noted that the operation comes 'as part of a series of operations to eliminate scores of senior officials of the Iranian regime'. Tensions flared in the Middle East after the US and Israel launched a joint military operation on Iran on February 28, when diplomatic talks were taking place aimed at ‘undermining Iran's nuclear and missile programmes'. Tehran then announced retaliatory strikes on Israel and US assets in the region. Explosions were reported in different Gulf countries. Later, Iran confirmed the killing of the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and his son, Mujtaba Khamenei, was selected as his successor. The conflict spilt over into Lebanon as Hezbollah intervened 'in revenge' for the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader. The shipment routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, were disrupted following the closure of the Strait. The latest escalation has driven oil prices above 100 USD per barrel, rattling global energy markets and triggering protests in several countries."
