'Fortunately, no kids were killed' - IDF shows devastation left after alleged Iranian strike hits Rishon LeZion kindergarten

"Israel's Chief of Staff of the Home Front Command, Brigadier General Elad Edri, confirmed that there were no casualties from the reported Iranian strike on a kindergarten in Rishon LeZion on Saturday. The officer also showed severely damaged parts of the building, with sections of its steel foundation protruding and walls pockmarked with holes. "You can see here the penetration of the bomb, a cluster bomb, into this kindergarten. Fortunately, there weren't any kids in this garden. But just imagine what would have happened if kids were here playing," he said, speaking from the site. "Once again, we see that our enemies aim their targets at the civilian population. They tried to kill and to impact as much as they can," he continued. Rishon Lezion city authorities reported a barrage of projectiles launched from Iran, which included a banned cluster munition impacting eight sites, including the kindergarten. Precautionary measures were taken, and shelter-in-place orders were issued for the Tel Aviv area, Ashdod, the Shphela lowlands, and parts of the West Bank. Earlier on Friday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had detected a new wave of ballistic missiles launched from Iran, targeting central Israel and the Jerusalem area. The strike comes amid escalating regional tensions following joint military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, carried out during ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes. Tehran has since launched retaliatory attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military assets across the region, with explosions reported in several Gulf countries."
