'We cannot sleep anymore' - Dhaka erupts in massive show of support for Gaza

"Thousands of worshippers marched to Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Jumma prayers on Friday to take part in a march for Palestine, showing solidarity in protest of Israel's military actions in Gaza. Drone footage shows a sea of protesters, holding up an enormous Bangladeshi flag and placards reading messages such as 'Free Palestine'. "Muslims all over the world should not be sleeping anymore. The occupying Israeli forces once took refuge in Palestine, and today they are conspiring to occupy the whole of Palestine after taking refuge," said one demonstrator, adding that global powers are cooperating with Israel and giving it the courage to "carry out the destruction in Gaza." During the program, scholars read out several pledges and demands, including calling on the interim government to stop any contract or trade with Israeli companies, to send life-saving aid to Gaza, and to include the history of Palestine and Al-Aqsa in textbooks. "If Muslim countries and world leaders could unite, no matter how powerful Israel is, they could be stopped," another protester said. The Hamas-Israel war in Gaza broke out on October 7, 2023, when the group launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, according to the Israeli side.  The Israeli military conducted a widespread military operation across Gaza, with more than 62,000 people killed at the time of publication, according to Palestinian officials."
