"Hundreds of pro-Palestine demonstrators filled the Midi train station in Brussels on Friday, banging pots and pans and chanting slogans in protest against what they described as government complicity in the ongoing violence in Gaza. Footage shows activists shouting through megaphones while waving Palestinian flags and brandishing placards as they marched through the station concourse. "Israel, they're bombing, they're starving an entire people, and that's not normal. We're here to put pressure on the government, to get them to act," one protester said. "The European states have failed to live up to what they claim to value… Since the states have failed, it’s up to us, the citizens, to stand up against what is happening, which is genocide," added a second. The Hamas–Israel war erupted on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian militant group launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing 1,139 people and taking more than 200 hostages, according to Israeli figures.
