Residents of Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood flee south amid Israeli strikes on Gaza City

"Residents of Gaza City's Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood were seen evacuating southward on Saturday as the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) intensified their military operations in northern Gaza. Footage shows plumes of smoke billowing as the sounds of explosions echoed through the city. Meanwhile, some residents can be seen evacuating the area on foot, while other drove away in their vehicles. This come after the Israeli army declared Gaza City a 'dangerous combat zone' on Friday. According to IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee, Israeli forces are currently conducting 'preliminary operations' on the outskirts of Gaza City. On August 8, Israel's Security Cabinet approved a plan to expand military operations and establish control over Gaza City, a move that sparked widespread international criticism. Russia, France and the United Kingdom condemned the decision, warning it may violate international law. The Israel-Hamas war in Gaza erupted on October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, according to Israeli officials. The Israeli military's subsequent military operations in Gaza have killed more than 63,300 people and injured over 159,800 others at the time of publication, according to Gaza's Ministry of Health."
