‘The people have already decided’ – Rixi Moncada rallies thousands in San Pedro Sula ahead of election

"Thousands of people filled the streets of San Pedro Sula on Saturday in a powerful show of support for left-wing presidential hopeful Rixi Moncada ahead of the November 30 election. Footage shows Rixi Moncada posing for photographs with supporters, while the streets echoed with the chants of thousands of people marching under flags and banners demanding renewal and justice. Participants described the atmosphere as more celebratory than a protest. "This wasn't a march, this was a carnival, a celebration. People converged from all points of the compass toward our presidential candidate Rixi," said Jorge Salaverri, tourism entrepreneur and Moncada supporter.  Organised by the Libre Party, the mobilisation drew delegates from all 18 departments via buses, microbuses and private vehicles, converging in a demonstration of unity and political momentum.  "This is the preamble to lawyer Rixi Moncada's victory on November 30. We came here to reaffirm that the Honduran people have already decided on this brilliant, intelligent woman," commented Leopoldo Romero, another supporter. Polls suggest that Moncada holds a commanding lead, with one poll placing her at 50 per cent of voter intention, far ahead of her nearest rival at 26 per cent. Hondurans will head to the polls in November to choose a president, as well as deputies, mayors and council members, with about 6.3 million voters expected to take part. The process is crucial for the country's political direction, amid criticism of Xiomara Castro's administration, allegations of corruption, and international concerns over potential authoritarian tendencies."
