ICC picks medical experts to assess Duterte’s fitness to stand trial

MANILA, Philippines — Medical experts have been tasked by the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Pre-Trial Chamber I to assess former President Rodrigo Duterte’s condition and his ability to follow and take part in the ongoing proceedings in relation to his crimes against humanity case.  The chamber, in a document dated Oct. 9, ordered the appointment of a multidisciplinary panel of experts for the assessment of Duterte’s fitness to stand trial, suggesting that it should consist of at least three experts in the fields of forensic psychiatry, neuropsychology, and behavioural neurology.
