"A new queen was crowned at the annual 'Miss Old if Gold' beauty pageant in Freetown, where Sierra Leone's elderly women took centre stage to celebrate age, confidence, and community spirit on Saturday. Footage shows participants strutting in their best gowns and dancing on stage for their performances. It also shows the crowning moment of Adama Roy Kamara. "I feel good about myself. Really, today is my happiest day," Kamara said. "Right now, the community feels good because I won this competition, and I am very happy." DOFA CEO Barrie shared that the organisation decided to hold the Miss Old is Gold beauty pageant every October to "raise awareness and celebrate the month of the elderly." "It lets people know that even though you're old, you can do it. What younger people can do, we, the older people, can do it," former contestant Camelia Kargbo remarked. The 'Miss Old is Gold Sierra Leone' pageant is a beauty competition for elderly women, aged 60 and over, organized by the Dorwontony Organization for the Aged (DOFA), aimed at challenging age stereotypes and celebrating the wisdom, beauty, and contributions of older women to society."
