DOH bares 297 ghost super health centers nationwide

MANILA, Philippines —The Department of Health (DOH) revealed on Wednesday that there were 297 ghost super health centers nationwide. Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa disclosed this following his inspection of the Concepcion Dos Super Health Center in Marikina funded by the DOH. “According to the billboard, it started Dec. 15, 2023. So it should have been completed,” said Herbosa whose ocular inspection revealed that only Phase 1, or its foundation, was finished. Herbosa said the unfinished health center in Marikina was just one of the 297 ghost super health centers in the country. “Some are completed only on paper, others are stuck in Phase 1—just foundations covered in weeds." Initially funded at ₱11.5 million in 2022 for the foundation of a two-story health center. Herbosa said that the local government of Marikina later modified the design to a four-story building with a birthing center, leading to additional funding and project delays.
