CEBU CITY – Police arrested a 21-year-old man who admitted killing a ride-hailing app driver in a mountain barangay here last week for P3,000. The suspect, Kirk Blash Monteron Amasa, admitted he was paid to kill Dexter Nanong Dandan, a 48-year-old resident of Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City. Dandan was found dead with multiple stab wounds on Sunday morning, Oct. 12. “I regret what I did. I’m asking forgiveness,” Amasa told reporters in dialect on Wednesday morning, Oct. 15. The suspect refused to identify the person who paid him to kill the victim. He also did not disclose the motive of the crime. The suspect said he decided to accept the offer to kill the victim in exchange for cash, saying his income as a construction worker was not enough to provide the needs of his family. Police said the suspect was arrested when he reported for work in a construction site in Barangay Kamputhaw on Tuesday morning, Oct. 14. Lawmen were able to track down the suspect with the help of closed-circuit television footage. The suspect was captured by a security camera driving the victim’s motorcycle that he commandeered after the crime. Police said the suspect posed as a passenger then killed the victim when they reached a secluded area in Kalunasan. The suspect was driving the victim’s motorcycle when he was arrested on his way to work. Police Col. Enrico Figueroa, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said a murder case will be will be filed against the suspect.
