ZAMBOANGA CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte planted the one millionth tree under her environmental and education advocacy at the Pasonanca Freedom Park here on Wednesday, Oct. 15. A rambutan tree, her favorite, became the one millionth tree planted upon the completion of Pagbabago: A million Learners and Trees campaign of the Office of the Vice President. “We planted 3,000 trees in just five minutes here in Zamboanga City,” said Duterte during the well-attended ceremony. Zamboanga City Mayor Khymer Olaso said that P10 million was allocated by his administration to purchase and distribute fruit-bearing trees throughout Zamboanga City. The nationwide campaign aims to plant one million trees and distribute one million bags to students within six years, the term of the Vice President. The objective to plant a million trees, however, was achieved midterm. The ceremony was attended by Olaso, Vice Mayor Beng Climaco, city councilors, local government officials and personnel, and other stakeholders.
