MRT-3 deploys six four-car trains to ease rush hour congestion

MANILA, Philippines — Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez on Friday ordered the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) management to deploy six four-car train sets during the morning rush hour to ease the buildup of passengers at stations. Lopez said the additional train sets were rolled out between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. as part of efforts to improve passenger flow and reduce waiting time. “I saw for myself while commuting that some stations were already overcrowded, and queues were getting long. That’s why we deployed more four-car trains so passengers can board faster,” Lopez said. He added that each four-car train set can carry up to 1,576 passengers per trip, which would help increase the rail line’s operational capacity. The acting transport chief said the MRT-3 management would study the possibility of running four-car trains regularly, “without compromising safety and the maintenance of our train sets.”
