MANILA, Philippines — Local chief executives in Quezon City and northern Metro Manila have ordered the cancellation of classes in all levels in private and public schools on Monday due to Typhoon Uwan. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and the mayors of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela cancelled face-to-face classes and directed school authorities to conduct alternative modes of learning. Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie Gatchalian and Caloocan City Mayor Dave Gonzalo Malapitan also cancelled work. “Work in city government offices will likewise be suspended. However, offices providing emergency, disaster response, and essential public services will remain operational,” Malapitan said. Gatchalian told The Manila Times that emergency and disaster response offices would remain operational. “Work suspension for private companies, on the other hand, will be at the discretion of their respective management,” Gatchalian said.
