MANILA, Philippines — Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to immediately assess the bridge connecting San Rafael and Maipon in Guinobatan, Albay, which was damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan on November 9. Lopez said PNR engineers are on standby and will conduct the assessment as soon as weather and safety conditions allow. Due to the damage, operations on the Naga–Legazpi route have been temporarily suspended. To help affected commuters, Lopez will direct the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to deploy additional public utility vehicles (PUVs) in the area. The PNR will also inspect the entire Bicol commuter train route to ensure no other structures were compromised. The DOTr and PNR pledged to provide updates once the assessment and repair works are completed.
