42K evacuated in QC, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Malabon

MANILA, Philippines — The cities of Quezon, Valenzuela, Caloocan and Malabon reported that a total of 11,669 families or 42,947 people remain in evacuation centers due to Typhoon Uwan. Caloocan City Mayor Dave Gonzalo Malapitan told The Manila Times that most of the 1,606 families (6,540 individuals) that were brought to the evacuation centers came from Llano and Talipapa areas near the Tullahan River. “No one was affected by flooding and we brought the families to the evacuation centers as a preemptive measure against swollen rivers and intense rainfall caused by the super typhoon,” Malapitan said. In Valenzuela, Mayor Weslie Gatchalian was seen visiting the 2,668 families or 9,973 individuals in the city’s 42 evacuation facilities. With almost all villages in the city flooded, Gatchalian said they had to encourage residents, especially those from low-lying areas, to evacuate in anticipation of the strong impact of “Uwan”. Similarly, Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval checked on the conditions of her constituents – 867 families or 3, 315 individuals - in the city’s 30 evacuation centers. In Quezon City, a total of 6,519 families or 23, 119 individuals from six districts were still in its 134 evacuation facilities, Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
