THE Quezon City government has been hailed as a Hall of Fame awardee for consistently ranking Top 1 in Locally Sourced Revenues (LSR) among all cities in the country from 2020 up to 2024. Given by the Department of Finance–Bureau of Local Government Finance (DOF-BLGF), the recognition underscores the city’s sustained excellence in fiscal management, achieved under the leadership of Mayor Joy Belmonte, City Treasurer Edgar "Ed" Villanueva said on Tuesday. “This is, of course, through the collective commitment of city officials and employees to promote digitalization, transparency, and good governance,” Villanueva told The Manila Times via Viber. Delighted by the recognition, Belmonte said her administration has been banking on the full trust of her constituents, which results in more efficient tax collection and fiscal management without the need of imposing new tax rates. “With our strong commitment to innovation and good governance, Quezon City will continue to set the standard for efficient local revenue generation in the Philippines,” Belmonte said. Belmonte, Villanueva and City Assessor Sherry Gonzalvo accepted the awards — Top 1 in Locally Sourced Revenues among Cities, Top 6 in LSR to Total Current Operating Income, and Hall of Fame Award for Outstanding Revenue Performance — during DOF-BLGF’s 38th anniversary celebration held last week. In 2024, Villanueva said the city government recorded P28.8 billion in locally sourced revenues that derived from real property taxes, business taxes, other taxes, and non-tax revenues. “This is a dream come true for everyone in the City Treasurer’s Office, and a historic first for the Quezon City government to become a Hall of Famer,” Villanueva said. “We attribute this milestone to the strong leadership and digital transformation initiatives of Mayor Joy Belmonte and City Administrator Mike Alimurung,” he reiterated.
