Over 16K police to be deployed for anti-corruption protests on Nov 14

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy over 16,000 law enforcers at the three-day anti-corruption rally of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila from Nov. 16 to 18, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Wednesday. Police Maj. Hazel Asilo, NCRPO public information office chief, told a press briefing that of the 16, 433 personnel, 8,641 would come from the National Capital Region and 7,792 from other regional offices. Asilo said these policemen would be assigned to: Mendiola Peace Arch in Manila – 2,395 officers Quirino Grandstand in Manila – 1,476 officers the Ayala Bridge in Manila – 1,436 officers Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) Shrine in Quezon City – 1,369 officers J.P. Laurel St. cor. Nagtahan in Manila – 1,247 officers San Sebastian cor. Recto Avenue in Manila – 1,124 officers Gen. Solano St. cor. P. Casal St. in Manila – 1,088 officers Legarda cor. Figueras St. in Manila – 1,025 officers the People Power Monument in Quezon City – 892 officers San Rafael St. in Manila – 691 officers Arlegui St. cor. P. Casal St. – 652 officers Padilla St. in Manila – 544 officers Malacañang Park and Palace in Manila – 292 officers the House of Representatives in Quezon City – 259 officers U.S. Embassy in Manila – 170 officers the Senate in Pasay City – 50 officers the Independent Commission for Infrastructure office in Taguig City – 50 officers Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila – 50 officers Along with this, the NCRPO is also preparing for rallies by the United People’s Initiative (UPI) at the EDSA Shrine and People Power Monument in Quezon City on the same dates. The UPI is a group of mostly retired military and uniformed personnel who have denounced massive corruption in government.
