Former first lady Imelda Marcos honored at MMDA marker dedication

MANILA, Philippines — Former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos was recognized on Wednesday during the dedication of a marker at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Auditorium, honoring her role as the first governor of the then Metro Manila Commission. The ceremony was part of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) month-long celebration of its 50th founding anniversary, themed “Honoring the past, inspiring the future: 50 years of quality service and governance.” MMDA Chairman Don Artes led the event and welcomed Marcos as the guest of honor. In his remarks, Artes highlighted Marcos’ contributions to both urban development and Philippine cinema. Under her leadership, the Metro Manila Commission implemented significant projects as part of her “City of Man” vision, combining urban planning with cultural and nation-building initiatives. Artes said the event was not only a recognition of Marcos’ legacy but also a symbol of the MMDA’s commitment to continuing decades of public service, cultural development, and regional governance in Metro Manila. The marker dedication adds to a series of activities this month celebrating 50 years of the MMDA’s programs, including traffic management, disaster preparedness, and public safety initiatives across the capital region.
