MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Department of Finance Undersecretary Charlito Martin Mendoza as the new Commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), replacing Romeo Lumagui Jr. This was confirmed by Presidential Communications Office (PCO) acting Secretary Dave Gomez in a text message to Palace reporters. No reason or further statement was given regarding Lumagui’s exit from the agency. Lumagui’s departure came after he ordered a major overhaul of personnel which affected 16 key posts across the BIR’s regional offices.
