Footage shows John Lee and senior officials entering and later observing a three‑minute silence, with flags lowered to half‑mast and mourners later signing condolence books and bringing flowers to the makeshift memorial. "Witnessing such a massive disaster has deeply saddened me. I believe most Hong Kongers share this feeling: there's so little we can do. That's why I came to write in the condolence book today," a mourner said. "I'm happy to see that many people in Hong Kong still have a heart full of compassion. I’m happy to see people spontaneously contribute so much to help the victims and to see donations flowing in from all over the world," a mourner said. The fire broke out on Wednesday at the Wang Fuk Court complex, a cluster of eight high‑rise towers housing nearly 4,800 people, and spread via bamboo scaffolding and flammable renovation materials. By Friday, rescue operations had ended, with 128 people confirmed dead and 79 injured. Hundreds are still missing. Authorities have opened a full investigation and arrested several people, including construction company executives, over alleged manslaughter and unsafe building practices."
