"The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has extended beyond humans, placing the life of animals such as 'Simba' the lion at risk, as food and medicine insecurity remains in the enclave. Footage filmed on Saturday shows Simba and lionesses in cages. The lion can also be seen walking outside the cage with his trainer before undergoing a checkup by a veterinarian. "In recent weeks, Simba and one of the lionesses have suffered from severe health issues," Veterinarian Ayed Abu Najm explained. "We all know the lions and wild animals require special care, tailored nutrition, and specific medical treatments. Regrettably, these requirements are inaccessible in Gaza," he continued. Abu Najm shared that veterinarians have resorted to alternative treatments, including human medications when necessary. "What Simba and other animals need is the provision of life-saving medications, primarily, the vaccinations. Honestly, the lions have not received any vaccinations since the war began," he added. During the war, the health of the lions and other animals in Gaza has deteriorated significantly. Food insecurity and the lack of veterinary care have led to the death of many animals, despite local efforts and initiatives to keep them alive."
