"Police and military personnel were seen guarding the transportation of the ballots as polling stations opened for the Honduran presidential elections on Sunday. Footage recorded in Tegucigalpa polling station staff arranging National Electoral Council (CNE) ballots boxes with armed law enforcers standing guard on site. "We have perceived an atmosphere of calm, of peace, which is how it should be, right?" commented Marvin Hernandez, a voter. He also criticised the US President Donald Trump, who expressed his favouritism towards the right-wing candidate Nasry 'Tito' Asfura. "Let us say that this is rather interference in our country, that another president expresses support for a particular candidate. We see that as interference because here we Hondurans are the ones who will decide who to vote for and the vote is already decided," Hernandez added. Earlier on Friday Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: "If he [Asfura] doesn't win, the United States will not be throwing good money after bad." The presidential candidates in this electoral process are: Rixi Ramona Moncada, from the Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) party; Nasri Juan Asfura, from the National Party; Salvador Nasralla, from the Liberal Party; as well as Mario Enrique Rivera, from the Christian Democratic Party. In addition to electing the person who will succeed the current president, Xiomara Castro, Hondurans will also vote for three presidential designates, 298 municipal mayors and 128 deputies to the local Parliament."
