'Rixi already won!' – Libre supporters claim Moncadas victory as electoral body names Asfura leading candidate

"Supporters of presidential candidate Rixi Moncada of the Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre) declared her win in the Honduran elections, even as the National Electoral Council announced Nasry Asfura of the National Party in the lead, based on 34.25 per cent of the tally sheets counted. Footage filmed on Sunday shows Moncada's supporters gathered outside the headquarters of the Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) party, waving flags and chanting: 'Rixi already won'. "We are going to wait for the results to be counted, tally sheet by tally sheet. We trust in the victory of our candidate, and we are aware that Honduras and the people are going to give the victory to our candidate, and that Rixi already won and will be our next president," said one of the supporters. Another Moncada supporter said he hopes there will be 'no fraud' in the elections. "There cannot be fraud, never. The people are not going to want to stab themselves. The people are intelligent, and the people voted, and it is something that we are going to unmask as Rixi Moncada has done," he said. According to the preliminary results released by the National Electoral Council, National Party candidate Nasry Asfura leads Honduras's presidential race with 40.7 per cent of the vote. Liberal Party contender Salvador Nasralla follows with 38.7 per cent, while ruling party candidate Rixi Moncada is in third place with 19.6 per cent. On Friday, US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: "If he [Asfura] doesn't win, the United States will not be throwing good money after bad." In this election, Hondurans are electing a new president, three presidential designates, 298 municipal mayors and 128 parliamentary deputies. The electoral results will be updated in the coming hours on the official website of the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission system (TREP)."
