Miriam Margolyes pictured during Friday's edition of The Graham Norton Show Miriam Margolyes made a much-awaited return to Graham Norton ’s sofa on Friday night – and we’re happy to report that she certainly didn’t disappoint. The always-outrageous star has had countless iconic moments on Graham’s talk show over the years, going viral for stories about everything from her past sexual escapades , public flatulence and encounters with fellow actors . And during her latest appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Miriam made a callback to a story she previously told on the show. Way back in 2012, Miriam recalled an incident that had taken place “the last time” she was in Edinburgh. “I hope this isn’t going to offend anybody,” she prefaced at the time. “I was walking home after a show one night, and I was walking through The Meadows, which is a kind of field in the middle of Edinburgh, and I heard a rustling above me… and I looked up and I saw a young man masturbating in the tree.” Miriam continued: “I said, ’what are you doing ?’. I felt concerned! And I said, ‘what is your occupation?’. And he said, ‘I’m a soldier’, and I said, ‘in the Tattoo’, and he said ‘yes, I am’, and I said, ‘come down at once’. “So, he sort of slid down the tree, and I said, ‘you know you can get into trouble for doing what you’re doing…?’. You’ve heard of helping hands, haven’t you? Well, I helped him out. And he was charming – and I must say, also, grateful. He was a solider, and you’ve got to support the troops!” Now, at the time, Miriam’s fellow guests’ shock led her to end the anecdote there, but as she revealed during her most recent appearance on Graham Norton – there was actually a lot more to the story. She recalled: “I was wiping my hand in the grass, and [I heard] a voice from the bushes… and a very nicely-dressed gentleman came forward and said, ’I couldn’t help noticing what you had done for that young man, and I wondered if it was at all possible, whether you would do the same for me? “And I thought to myself, ‘well I can’t say no, can I?’. Well, I just felt I couldn’t, that’s the thing! So, I did what he asked me to do, right there, there was nobody else there, and off he went. And I was wiping my hand on the grass again, and lo and behold – this is the bit that nobody believes, but it is true – a voice from the same place said, ‘hey, Miriam!’. And it was someone I knew! “He was a young student that I had known in Oxford… and he said, ‘listen, we’re old friends’, and I said, ‘oh, come on!’. Fair’s fair… so I did! Three for the price of one!” Last year, Graham insisted that Miriam – who has now made 10 separate appearances on his talk show – “looks wilder than she is”. “She’s actually very canny,” the Irish presenter claimed . “She sort of self-produces. Going into [an interview], we’ll know that there’s kind of a wild story we want from her – but often, during the show, she’ll change her mind and say, ‘no, that’s not the story I’m going to tell’, and she’ll drop a bombshell on us. “But it’s always timed very well, and she allows the other guests to have their moment. She’s clever, is Miriam.” He later admitted that he “feels bad” that Miriam’s unfiltered stories mean she’s sometimes seen as “ kind of a comedy turn”, rather than the “brilliant actor” she is. In 2023, Miriam told Graham that when she was putting together her second memoir, she made a point of not being “quite as rude” as she had been in the first instalment”, noting : “I wanted to talk about the more serious part of my life, so people don’t just think I am a maniac. I am a real person.” READ MORE: Miriam Margolyes Claims She Was Invited To Be On Celebrity Traitors – And Responded As Only She Could Miriam Margolyes Opens Up About Losing Friends And Family Due To Her Vocal Support Of Palestine Miriam Margolyes Catches The Loose Women Panel Off Guard With Another Explicit Outburst
