"Locals in India's Kashmir Valley rushed to street markets on Sunday to buy warm clothing after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that this winter season will see a 'prolonged stretch of sub-zero temperatures'. Footage shows the energy of a bustling street market, where eager shoppers sift through piles of clothing to find the ideal pieces to withstand the harsh frosts ahead. "Thousands of people were shopping here. Everyone was buying something—some jackets, others sweaters, bags, and shawls, as well as various kitchen items. Everyone is busy preparing for the winter," a vendor remarked. "The Sunday market is great for everyone. Most importantly, everything is available at reasonable prices—whether it’s jackets, bags, pherans, or anything else," another added. Srinagar recently recorded its coldest night of the season at -4.5 degrees Celsius, while other areas have seen temperatures drop even lower, reaching -6 degrees in some locations. The IMD has warned that conditions may worsen, with expected temperature drops of another 1 to 2 degrees in the coming days. The freezing temperatures have altered daily routines, causing markets to open late and close early as people seek to avoid the chill."
