It has been claimed that the ‘Akbil case’ brought against AKP President Erdoğan concerning his time as Mayor of Istanbul has been dropped and he has been found not guilty. The Akbil case was based on allegations that during Erdoğan's tenure as mayor of Istanbul, 2.6 trillion Turkish lira worth of ‘corruption’ had been committed in relation to Akbil, the payment system used on public transport in the city. As part of the investigation, 65 people were initially detained and 37 people were prosecuted.
