"Residents of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Russia’s Far East continued to tackle the aftermath of record-breaking snowfall on Thursday as the region remained in the grip of a strong winter storm. Time-lapse CCTV footage shows locals shoveling and digging out cars and roads while relentless heavy snowfall continued, with metre-high drifts outside apartment blocks. The regional governor Vladimir Solodov declared a state of emergency in the city, noting that the situation on the main roads significantly worsened overnight. Meanwhile, the regional hydrometeorological centre warned of the risk of avalanches in mountainous areas, as well as in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on January 15-18. The week has seen two powerful cyclones sweep through the region."
