Dhaka inferno - At least six dead, 13 injured in residential building blaze

"At least six people lost their lives and 13 sustained injuries after a fire broke out in a residential building in Dhaka on Friday morning. Footage shows the seven-storey building with soot stains on its facade, with residents gathering along nearby streets as they grappled with the aftermath. "When I arrived in the morning, I saw that the fire had spread all around. People were being taken out of the building," said local resident Parvin Begum. "The fire service was pouring water to put out the fire while everyone was screaming and crying." The blaze erupted just before 8 a.m. local time. Two units from Uttara Fire Station arrived within minutes and began efforts to contain the fire, which was brought under control by 8:25 a.m. "The fire started on the second floor, but flames and smoke reached the sixth floor," said Sirazul Islam, an emergency worker who inspected the building after the fire. Islam said the residents who died were on the north side of the fifth floor, and three others were on the south side of the sixth floor. The residents who were trapped inside the building were rescued, of whom 13 suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage have not been determined. However, the police and the Fire Service are jointly investigating the incident."
