Surigao del Sur under state of calamity due to Basyang's effects

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur—Surigao del Sur is under a state of calamity following a declaration by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during a special session on Monday. Based on situational reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Tropical Depression Basyang (international name: Penha) has left 95,670 families, or 359,887 individuals, affected, displacing 33,071 families who had sought refuge in evacuation centers and 6,168 families outside, while claiming two lives and injuring one.  It also wrought economic losses of some P1.48 billion.
